Imagine, Create and Play

Inspired by the Portuguese Ministry of Education’s most recent educational references, this is Tempos Brilhantes’ contribution for the well-being and educational fulfilment of all Portuguese children and young people: converging the multiplicity of human experience with the civilizational ethos!
The collective mission is to experiment with new and creative trans-disciplinary work models involved in citizenship, child and youth development, and community development for Curricular Enrichment Activities (AEC), family animation (AAAF) and support activities (CAF).

Problem solving, Self-regulation and Prosocial Behavior

The Gulbenkian Academy of Knowledge “The Incredible Years”  is aimed at children aged 3 to 6 and its methodology is implemented within the scope of Animation and Family Support Activities, having started in the academic year 2018/2019. The Incredible Years program emerges as a methodology of reference, whose impact has already been proven and consolidated, allowing synergies to be created between what Tempos Brilhantes was already doing and what the investigation has already proven.
This program was developed to increase children’s social and emotional skills, such as problem solving, self-regulation, including dealing with negative emotions, prosocial behavior, and also to reduce risk factors related to ineffective children’s group room management practices, early-onset behavior problems and social and emotional difficulties of children aged 3 to 8 years (Reike, Stormont, Webster-Stratton, newcomer, Herman, 2012, p.419).

Promotion of Socioemotional Skills

The Gulbenkian Academy of Knowledge’s “Devagar se Vai ao Longe” is Portuguese originated program  (Raimundo, 2007), based on a universal program to promote socio-emotional skills which aims to improve socio-emotional skills and academic performance, as well as prevention or reduction of behavioral and emotional problems in children of the 1st cycle of basic education (Raimundo, 2012).
It’s a comprehensive program that emphasizes the importance not only of teaching skills, but also of how they should be applied to real day-to-day situations, in order to facilitate their wide spreading.

Plan B
Social Inclusion and School Dropout Prevention

Plan B is based on the principles of modern pedagogy and combines Health Education with Socio-Emotional Education. It counts with the intervention of a multidisciplinary team focused on the areas of social inclusion, preventing school dropout and promoting curricular success.
Plan B uses different strategies that promote the development of children and young people, through a joint action between the school and families, free of general and pre-made curricular plans and open to inclusion, personal and collective promotion. Plan B looks at each student as a potential learner in society.
